Q-Arlen J asks....

“So we’ve found a home for sale on a popular website. But the Realtor we’re using tells us it’s not available. My wife and I are confused because a ‘Sponsoring Agent’ is shown on this site, color picture and all next to the picture of the home. We called the Sponsoring Agent, and they offered to meet with us and discuss the home. What’s the deal?”

A-Real Estate Wizard

Arlen, this isn’t as unusual as it sounds. My dad always told me that if something smells a little off, it probably is....

Some background is helpful....The site is using information it gathers through a licensing arrangement with many local Multiple Listing Services. These sites pay a fee to the local MLS.

The information delivered by listing agents, (like yours truly), is repackaged and listed on these Internet sites.

The “Sponsoring Agent” is an agent paying a fee to be associated with a zip code or subdivision. Any inquiries through the site that match these criteria are communicated to the agent.

The “Sponsoring Agent” has more than likely never visited the property, may not even live in your town.

Your Buyer’s Agent is paid to deliver a home to you. If it’s not available, they’ll tell you.

The “Sponsoring Agent” more than likely wants to meet with you to let you know this home isn’t available (aw shucks), but he has plenty more that could be a good fit.

What a prince!

9 times of 10, your Buyer’s Agent knows the score, knows where to find you a great home that fits your needs....Happy hunting Arlen!

Will the Olathe Schools Budget Problems Affect the Students?

Most school districts in Kansas are facing budget problems like the Olathe School District. The Olathe School District has been hit with a 6 million dollar deficit in December and it looks like bigger cuts are coming.

Olathe has been dealing with the cuts with smart administrators making smart cuts. Now the cuts are getting to big and the fears are the cuts will start affecting the students. One way the Olathe Schools have been working through the problems is holding Town Hall Meetings. To read about the town hall meetings, go to: Olathe Schools Facing Budget Crunch - Kansas City News Story - KMBC Kansas City

Many parents that have attended past Town Hall Meetings or have voiced their concerns have suggested cutting extra programs like the poplar Cool Science Investigations Club (CSI).

The next Town Hall Meeting is Jan. 28th at Olathe South High School. The meeting is at 7:00 pm.

What do you think the Olathe School District should do to deal with the large funding cuts? Do you think the cuts will start affecting the students?
