Kansas should follow New York on this law

During my couple hours of research, I was surprised to find out that Kansas does not have a carbon monoxide law. Sure I didn't read ever single page of new laws and if there is a law to make it mandatory to have a carbon monoxide detector, I couldn't easily find it.

I'm kinda passionate about this because without a carbon monoxide in my home in the 90's I would probably not be writing this blog today. In 1997, a carbon monoxide detector saved my life. Another minute, according to the fire department and I would have been a in another place.

Recently, New York State, has enacted a law that any residence that has combustible gas (even for a lawn mower) or uses combustible gas will need a carbon monoxide detector on every sleeping floor plus on the floor were combustible gas is stored or used.

Although it is a very difficult law to police, I think Kansas should pass a law similar to New York State.

The benefit is simple. It will create more awareness about carbon monoxide deaths. A quick search on Google showed me that many people have been injured and people have died from carbon monoxide, including people in Kansas.

  1. Hi Chris,

I think that would be an excellent idea. My wife and I have a CM detector in our house as well. Public awareness is key. Lets have more PSA on TV about easily fixable things, and less on how Jen is doing 5 years after Brad. :)

  2. sounds like government running amuck again. People are responsible for themselves and their families. We don't need any more rules/laws/regulations.
