Yesterday, I noticed that my son was using his older laptop to surf the internet. I asked him why isn’t he using his newer ASUS netbook. He said that he was having problems with his power cord. It seemed to not be working correctly. He said he was pretty sure that it was the power cord because he plugged another power cord in and it worked great. The lights came on correctly and the netbook was charging.


Here is the problem. My son called the ASUS tech support regarding his less than 3 month old ASUS. After spending an hour on the phone and talking to ASUS, they want him to spend $30 to send his ASUS netbook in to have his $10 power cord fix or replaced.





My son asked me why ASUS would ask him to spend $30 to fix a $10 part. I asked him if he explained that he used another power cord and the netbook worked properly and he said, “yes.”


It sure didn’t make sense to me either, so I have spent the last 2 hours trying to get a hold of the ASUS tech department to discuss this with them. Finally, after talking to a supervisor, ASUS is looking into my son’s issues. They asked me to call back later today.

If they don’t handle my son’s issue, we’ll bypass ASUS and order a power cord from a competitor online.

Is it a good business practice to push your customers to your competitor? That is what I see ASUS is doing. We have multiple ASUS products.

The ASUS tech department reminds me how many real estate companies run their real estate business. They kind of push clients to other sources after the sale.
