Save $5,000 if you build a new home in De Soto, Kansas.



In a move intended to spark lagging residential development in the western Johnson County city of about 5,500, city administrators decided to entice potential builders by knocking off about $5,000 in required permit fees.

Through September, the city will waive all fees associated with obtaining a residential building permit except for the sewer development fee, which must be used to pay off bonds, and a portion of the water meter fee.
