Johnson County Environmental Department Request for Applicants for the 2012 Green Business Awards
Johnson County Environmental Department is recognizing Johnson County, Kansas businesses that are taking steps to reduce waste and conserve resources. Johnson County businesses leading the way with innovative recycling programs, green purchasing policies and waste reduction measures are encouraged to apply for the 2012 Green Business Recognition Award. This is a self-nominating and noncompetitive award with applications due on or before January 31, 2012.
2011 award winner Bluejacket Flint Elementary teacher, Lucas Shivers, spoke highly of the program, "The Green Business Program helped our school systematically complete a full review of our current green practices and scale up in several areas to fully take advantage of sustainable projects."
2010 Award winner ConEdison Solutions successfully recycled 1,200 pounds of material in just one year, equivalent to 73% of their total waste. Employee, Don Flower professed, "The program is tied to the local business community, and because of that, the effort to green our workplace felt much more significant."
This year's awardees will be recognized and presented awards at a Johnson County Board of County Commissioners meeting in April. Interested businesses may apply by January 31, 2012. For more information visit the county's recycling website at www.jocorecycles.org.
