Celebrating Hannah Apperson's Life

A year ago today our lives changed.

While I was on an appointment, my brother-in-law kept calling my wife and I. He couldn't reach his wife, my little sis, by phone.

My clients were also very good friends of my sis and brother-in-law so I cut my appointment short, they understood.

I first ran by my sisters home. She wasn't there. I then started hitting many of the spots my sister would be at. On my 3rd or 4th spot, my wife called me and said that my sister didn't make it to her evening part time job.

My brother-in-law was worried that his family was involved in a horrific headon collision in Gardner, Kansas.

My wife and I kept on assuring my brother-in-law that his family wasn't involved and that they were just out doing some family shopping, like the grocery store.

Not exactly sure how my wife and I found out that a truck had hit my sister's car headon, but as soon we did we started coordinating what hospitals my sister and all of her kids were at.

My wife headed to pickup my brother-in-law from work and I went to the crash site to talk to the investigators.

As soon as I arrived to the crash site I was actually surprised anyone made it out the headon collission alive. As soon as the police found out who I was they ushered me away and gave me a short explanation of the accident.

It was explained to me that my sister was taken to OPRMC with multiple fractures on the legs and arms. They also said that two of the kids were life flighted to Children's Mercy Hospital. I knew at that point from looking at the accident that it was tragic.

A year ago today, we lost Hannah to a headon collission. This morning we will celebrate Hannah's life with a mass at Sacred Heart Church in Gardner at 8 then we will be going out to her gravesite soon after.
