I'm selling my home in Olathe, Kansas and have a question about my decor. My decor is wine red in color.

Question: I'm selling my home in Olathe, Kansas and have a question about my decor. My decor is wine red in color. I have rooms that are wine red, counter tops that are wine red and window curtains that have wine red in them. Everything I’ve read and been told is that you don’t want to have a room that is a bright bold color. . It looks great to me but would it detract buyers?

Answer: Yes, having wine red decor would be undesirable to many Olathe home buyers. As much as it may look fantastic to you(I love tastefully decorated homes that show the owner’s personality), when it comes to selling, you want to appeal to as many home buyers as possible.

Use neutral, clean colors. You want the home buyer to be able to imagine how they would personalize it themselves. You do not want it to look like YOUR home.

If you want to get ideas on how to make your home more attractive to a broad spectrum of buyers, visit model homes and kitchen show rooms. Those places intentionally display colors that will appeal to most of the public.

Enjoy staging your Olathe home for a quick and profitable sale!
