Question: We’re looking at an Olathe home that is currently owned by a relocation company. The listing real estate agent is being very difficult and we firmly believe she is not presenting our written offer to the relocation company. She has also been bluffing in an effort to get us to come in higher. We know this because a friend of mine found the home through the listing agent. The listing agent has been calling our friends and giving them details. Our agent has asked for a signed copy of the written offer with the company’s counter and she has not produced it. Although our agent has asked to not contact the relocation company ourselves, we would like to call the relocation company and talk to them. What should we do?

Answer: Something doesn't sound right here. Obviously, your friends have told you things that have created doubt in your mind about the listing agent. That happens. First, relocation companies work slow, so the listing agent maybe using the slow negotiations to get a better offer. That is their job. You might try contacting the relocation, but I would doubt that they would take your call. I would recommend having a face to face meeting with your agent, the listing agent and the listing agents broker. This may help answer many of your questions and remove the doubt in your mind.
All listing agents have a duty to present all offers in a timely manner. If you find out that the listing agent has breached their duty, file a complaint with the real estate board in Kansas City. The local real estate board is the KCRAR.
Good luck on the negotiations and I hope you get the home!

For a reason...should we talk?
