This Overland Park Man Decided to Find the Rightful Owner
Craig Colbert is a modest Overland Park man. It took him only a split second to decide to do what others might have to ponder longer days or a week to do.
"Folks may consider this a big deal that somebody did something like this," Colbert said. "It's the way I hope everybody would act."
Colbert recently found a pile of cash in the area of 95th Street and Nall Avenue in Overland Park, Kansas. He fears it is someone's family Christmas money. He knew he had to turn the money over to the Overland Park Police to find the rightful owner.
"It's an unusual call, especially in today's times," said Officer Michelle Koos of the Overland Park Police Department. "Holidays are right around the corner. It's nice to see someone return money or at least try and get it back to its rightful owner."
To reclaim the money, Overland Park police expect the owner to identify the specific amount found, where it was lost and how it was held together.
Colbert hopes the rightful owner is found before Christmas.
"I really thought how terrible it'd be for somebody to have saved that money just for Christmas and all of a sudden they don't have it," he said.
When Colbert is not finding piles of lost cash, he his helpings build homes for Habitat for Humanity.
