Renderings of Olathe Kansas’ first community center show the center to feature a curved roof line.
The community center will include a natatorium with a two-story water slide that extends outside the building walls, party rooms, meeting space, a child care area and an aerobics and dance studio. The upper floor includes weight and exercise rooms.
The $22.5 million community center project will be located at South Ridgeview and East Kansas City roads. The community center is being paid for with revenue from the parks sales tax as well as general obligation bonds and other city funds. Actual construction is budgeted at $16.4 million. The rest of the costs include design, a contingency fund and other items.
The timeline calls for construction documents to be prepared by August 2012.
