New Johnson County Trash Plan Includes Recycling goes into effect 1/1/2012 - City of Olathe is not Included in New Plan
Johnson County, Kansas has implemented a new trash plan that will start January 1st, 2012. The new trash plan includes a recycling plan.
The City of Olathe residents who are on their solid waste program will NOT be impacted by Johnson County’s new trash plan.  There will also be no changes for City of Olathe trash, yard waste, recycling and bulk pick-up collection.
The reasoning for the City of Olathe residents’ from being exempt from the new trash program is more than 35% of Olathe’s trash is diverted from the waste stream following the start of the citywide recycling service in 2010.
The Johnson County plan is to enact the new trash plan with the goal of diverting 30% of trash from the landfill, which is less than what Olathe is currently diverting.
The City has collected residential yard waste separately since 1990, and began a curbside recycling program in 1997.  For more information, visit Environmental Services or call 971-9311.
