Gardner, KS. City Council Member Resigns After Starting a Fight at Another City Council Members Home

According to a press release from the Gardner, KS. Mayor, Dave Drovetta, City Council Member Dennis Pugh has resigned. Pugh made some 5th grader remarks during a November city council meeting. The remarks spilled out into another city council members front yard. Apparently, City Council member went to another city council members home and bullied him into a fight. According to reports, Mr. Pugh put another city council member in a headlock.

The Gardner, KS. police department was called and properly took statements. The statements were sent to the Johnson County District Attorney's office via through a report. Although a few people in Gardner felt that Mr. Pugh's actions were justified, the DA's office found probable cause to charge Mr. Pugh of of Battery and Criminal Deprivation of Property.

Mr. Pugh issued the following statement to the Mayor, "I am sending this email to notify you of my resignation from the Gardner City Council effective immediately. I wish you and the magnificent city staff all the best. Please know that I did not come to this decision lightly and this is the best course of action for our city to move forward. Sincerely, Dennis Pugh"

According to the City Charter, the Mayor will select a nominee to replace Mr. Pugh.  The Mayor's nominee will then be ratified by a vote of the remaining members of the Council.  Additionally, the Mayor does not vote on most items before the Council with the exception of breaking a tie vote.  Until a replacement for Mr. Pugh is selected, there opportunity for tie votes will exist and the Mayor's vote will break those ties.
