Shawnee Mission School Board increases fees to high school students

The Shawnee Mission School Board in Johnson County, KS. passed a measure to merge two fees, which would require each high school student to pay a yearly $90 activity fee.
At Monday night's meeting Superintendent Gene Johnson introduced a new mandatory participation and activity fee for every student.
The new fee would be mandatory for all high school students in the district. Superintendent Gene Johnson  recommended a $90 high school participation fee at Monday night's monthly school board meeting.
The Shawnee Mission School district already has a $40 activity fee and the district recently approved a new $50 fee. Johnson now wants to merge the two fees so that they are paid by all students whether they attend or participate in extracurricular activities.
Looking at the similar fees around the area, Lawrence charges students $50, Blue Valley $120 and Bonner Springs $200.
