The Kansas Poverty Rate is Outpacing the National Poverty Rate

According to a new study from the Social Impact Research Center, the Kansas poverty rate is outpacing the United States poverty rate by percentage.

The study is based on the 2009 U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey.

The Kansas poverty rate increased to 2.1% percent in 2009 to 13.4%. The 2.1% is 1% greater than the national poverty rate.

Missouri’s poverty rate rose 1.2 percentage points from 13.4 percent in 2008 to 14.6 percent in 2009.

The Kansas poverty rate could be outpacing the nation due to some high tech companies leaving Kansas. The new tech area opening up in Manhattan, Kansas may help. Why do you think the Kansas poverty rate is outpacing the nation?
