The Kansas City area has a lot at stake with these grants. The metro area has an $88 million application assembled by the Mid-America Regional Council.

The MARC application includes of elements of bus rapid transit lines in Overland Park and Kansas City, Kan., planning for a downtown streetcar line, 55 miles of bike lanes, a new interhange at Front Street and track upgrades for the Kansas City Terminal Railway

In addition to the MARC application, Kansas is seeking $50 million to get a massive freight center started in southwest Johnson County.

Overland Park is requesting $98 million to build a new interchange at U.S. 69 and I-435 and Olathe wants $33 million for Lone Elm Road work.

The money has to be awarded by Feb. 17.
