Leaving car to warm us results in 16 car thefts in Overland Park, Kansas

Crime Scene KC:

16 cars have been stolen so far this year in Overland Park. Cars are being stolen from everywhere, single family homes, apartment complexes and from in front of businesses.

The Overland Park Police would like to remind people that it's against the law to leave a car running unattended. Here is the Overland Park oridinance:

It is a violation of Overland Park City Ordinances to leave a vehicle running with the key(s) in the ignition. A driver is required to stop the engine, lock the ignition and remove the key from the ignition.

The only exception to the ordinance is a vehicle equipped with a remote starter system, with no keys being left in the vehicle and the vehicles’ doors must be locked.

Lets see if we can get the amount of stolen cars reduced in Overland Park by keeping cars locked when warming up.
