Google Italy Executives Found Guilty Over Offensive Video

Google Executives Found Guilty Over Offensive Video:

In 2006, a person uploaded a video of a group of boys bullying a boy with down syndrome. Although this is a terrible act, the Italian courts make it worse. Four top Google representatives were sued in the Italian courts and were convicted.

The Google representatives did not post the video and when the video was brought to Google's attention the video was removed. The prosecutor claims that Google should never have allowed the video in the first place.
David Drummond, one of the Google representatives convicted, plans to appeal the verdict, summing it up nicely: “If individuals like myself and my Google colleagues who had nothing to do with the harassing incident, its filming or its uploading onto Google Video can be held criminally liable solely by virtue of our position at Google, every employee of any internet hosting service faces similar liability.”

To my knowledge the boys who uploaded the video where not prosecuted and the sad part is David is right. What kind of message does this send to companies, corporations, bloggers, social media experts and web designers? Will everyone be concerned about the social interaction? Will we be judged by what people say or post on our sites like Facebook, Ning and Blogger accounts?

There will always be immature individuals and they should be the ones to prosecuted for their actions. It sounds like many people don't understand that society has changed from a marketing and advertising society to a social that uses marketing and advertising with interaction society.
