The Big News: The Kansas City, Missouri
School District Loses Their Accreditation. Now What? Will the Kansas
City Real Estate Market Suffer? Surely Real Estate Foreclosures will Rise!
While nothing will happen until January
of 2011 and the school district having 2 years to make changes, it is
obvious why the past superintendent left so abruptly for a Michigan
school district.
Will kids leave the school district for
neighboring school districts or will the interim superintendent make
some much needed changes?
The question I don't see getting asked
is will this affect the real estate market. I believe that if the
Kansas City School District does not at least get a provisional
accreditation the real estate market will suffer.
How many families if given the choice
will stay in Kansas City vs. moving to an area where the school
district is good. I see families who have the ability to move will
move to school districts in the suburbs like Belton, Raymore, Lee's
Summit and Blue Springs. I even see the neighborhoods in Johnson
County benefiting.
For home buyers choosing a new home,
surely the lack of a functioning school district will affect their
decisions, right?
As a REALTOR with over 22 years
experience, the schools get brought up 90% of the time whether the
buyer has kids or not. Most buyers understand that good schools are
good for resale values.
Unless the Kansas City, Missouri School
District fixes their current situation, I see the Kansas City real
estate market suffering more. Current homeowners will have trouble
selling and many who try to sell will have problems. Foreclosures will rise in the Kansas City, Missouri School District if the problems do not get fixed.
What do you think?
RE/MAX sells more homes than any other real estate company.
For a reason...should we talk?
