City of Lenexa, Kansas Increases Property Taxes
City of Lenexa, Kansas |
The City of Lenexa City Council voted to approve a 3-mill property tax on Tuesday night as part of its $103.1 million budget for 2012. The increase is about a 11% of the city’s current property tax rate of 26.6 mills.
The property tax increase will cost the average owner of a $200,000 Lenexa home an extra $83 a year in taxes.
The tax increase was intended to offset a decline in property taxes stemming from the Legislature’s decision to exempt new commercial and industrial machinery and equipment from property taxes.
The City of Lenexa is the third city in Johnson County to raise property taxes in the past month.
