The Kansas House has approved a bill that would allow buses on the shoulder of Interstate 35 between the suburbs and downtown Kansas City. The measure now goes to the Senate.
Buses could use the highway shoulders when traffic speed dips to less than 35 mph.
The buses would be barred from going more than 10 mph faster than highway traffic. Buses also would yield to traffic leaving and entering the highway as well as to other vehicles on the shoulder.
“It’s a real boon to public transit and would give them an advantage at being able to move at a little higher speed than the rate of traffic,” said Rep. Gene Rardin, an Overland Park Democrat."
I know there is lots of research on this but I'm not sure this is safe in Johnson County.
