Is that a Ferris Wheel off of I-435? Why there?

What Is That Thing Along I-435? :

Many may have wondered what the odd object on top of a huge 80-foot pole is along Interstate 435 near Roe Avenue in Overland Park.
Some have said it looks like a small Ferris wheel, while others have compared it to the wheel of a paddle boat. Other have called it modern art. However, the object is none of those.

The object at the A.L. Huber Company is a wind turbine, put up to showcase green energy, company officials said.

'It's a vertical access turbine that turns horizontally,' A.L. Huber's Phil Thomas said. 'It has slower wind speeds so you don't have noise or vibration or bird kill or ice throw -- any of the things associated with more traditional wind turbines ... When it's windy we're using the power it generates in our office.'

Thomas said the turbine is the first of its kind to be installed in North America.

I'm glad I found this article. Nearly every time I drive past that turbine, I wonder what it is and why there.
