Recently the Johnson County, Kansas Health Department held an appreciation breakfast for the six county school districts including the Olathe School District and Blue Valley School District for partnering in the administering of the H1N1 vaccine. By February, 42.6% of the 109,221 vaccines were administered through the school districts.
Earlier in the year, the Olathe School District saw about 700 cases of flu in one week, said Cindy Galemore, director of health services. Lately the district has seen about 40 cases a week of influenza reported, she said."
Blue valley and Shawnee Mission schools have also seen less kids missing school.
I read this morning that other areas that didn't have an vaccine program in the schools have seen significant absentees so far in 2010.
Since we are in the middle of the flu season, it looks like the aggressive vaccine program may have worked in Johnson County, Kansas.
